Music Releases Since Last Update
I recently uploaded a new song to ArtistServer.com, and realized that it had been a long time since I posted about my music. While I enjoy talking and thinking about artist and music promotion, I tend to not promote my own works, and spend all that time and energy working on the site or recording more music. The last post I made about new songs was back in May, 2006, where I had two new songs to share. The list of songs you see below, were recorded between July 2006 to January 6, 2006 (listed oldest to newest).
If you have a favorite, let me know - or, sign into ArtistServer.com and post a review! Enjoy the music :)

Breaks For Jah
Genre - Reggae/Dub/Breakbeat
Song Description - a blending of breaks and reggae with an upbeat tempo. Get up and move!

Speculatus
Genre - Minimal Experimental/Dub
Song Description - This piece can be described in three words: minimal glitch dub. It's built from glitch noises, a virtual synth, and a few drum samples drenched in reverb with some delay effects here and there. The piece doesn't have much to the structure, it's more of a texture with slight changes. This piece was inspired by the music of "Pole" which I just started listening to in earlier 2006.

Whipass Ray and the Stay Strongs
Genre - Drill n' Bass
Song Description - the vocal portion of this track was uploaded to he Web and has been passed around - Ze Frank www.zefrank.com/theshow asked people to remix it, and now they are looking for Ray to give him the remixes (and they found him). definately not one of my best tracks - it was just for fun.

Scratchin The Funk
Genre - Funk/Breakbeat
Song Description - This track started out going in a completely different direction - it had a very loud, dark sound. After a few listens, I deleted everything in the song but the drums and started over. Brillman, who hangs out on our forums, asked me where my funk went, which triggered the starting over from scratch, and this was the answer :)

Down Here, Over There
Genre - DownTempo
Song Description - This song is structured around a guitar recording I made, where I detuned the guitar until I found a nice and low, yet playable tuning - which ended up in the key of Bflat. From there, I built out the drums to support the changes, then learned the progression on my bass.

- Arpegallegiance
Genre - Ambient
Song Description - a set of notes run through an arpeggiator which were then tweaked using the sound source's settings and several effects to give it a well saturated sound.

- That Scat Song
Genre - Psychedelic/Funk
Song Description - This is one of those songs that sat around unfinished for more than a year. Every few months, I'd pull it out, make some edits, record some new parts, then save it away. Finally... it's here for you to check out... OMG... yes, it's true, it's "That Scat Song" - the song you've been waiting for. Click it on, sing along, it's That Scat Song. [note: scat as in, singing!!!]

IndieMobile Launched - Free MP3 Ringtones
I'm just finishing up the final touches on http://www.indiemobile.com/ [BETA]
It still needs some features, like displaying a mini artist profile when users click on a name, adding a help, and a button for viewing the Top 40 ringtones. I should have these items added in the next two weeks. Yes... the site is sporting this season's trend in color schemes and runs with zero page refreshes - oh yeah - it's more of that Web2.0... colors! Ajax functionality! no page refresh! mobile! Adsense! and most importantly... no business model! :) That's partially not true, as you'll read on, you'll see that my perspective on this launch, is that IndieMobile is a promotional tool for ArtistServer and it's artists, and that it's main function is to be a beacon.
The following are some general questions and answers about IndieMobile.
Q: What is IndieMobile.com?
The site is basically a reformatted version of the Ringtone section and
tools from ArtistServer.com. What these tools provide is a listing of
Ringtones hosted on the site, in addition to a set of options for
transfering the ringtones to your mobile phone. Q: How much are the ringtones? The ringtones are free.
Q: What kind of ringtones? These are mp3 ringtones, which are sometimes called realtones or truetones.
Q: Why IndieMobile.com?
This is a rebranding of the ringtone content on the site and is going to be used to promote the ArtistServer artstis who post Ringtones along with their songs.
The site is meant to give increased exposure to both artists and ArtistServer by appealing to those who may not find ArtistServer directly.
Q: Who will use the site?
I'm not sure - nor do I know if the site will see much traffic. I do plan to promote it to a few mobile blogs, post about it on my own, etc., but for now, I don't have the time nor plan for promoting IndieMobile. This is more of a, "set it free and see what happens" kind of thing for now.
Q: Will IndieMobile.com include more content than mp3 Ringtones?
Not any time soon. This is strictly a promotional tool for the artists and for ArtistServer.
Q: IndieMobile.com - nice domain name, how did you get it?
I've had more calls to purchase this domain than all the others I own. What's strange about it, is that the day after I bought the name, a guy from Canada called me to tell me that I took his domain name! Apparently, he had it in his cart and was going to buy it - but didn't check out - he was doing more searching for names... 10 minutes later, he went to check out... and found it was gone! So, he was calling me to ask for it back. Now here's the kicker... this has never happend to me before - where I bought a domain 'right' as someone else was trying to buy it, at least I doubt it's ever happened, but a week after this incident, the very same thing happened to a domain I had in my cart. Hmmmmm...

MP3maps.com - a Mashup Arriving in Summer 2006 Last month I posted about my adventures with geocoding and posted a screen design of an idea I had for ArtistServer. That idea bounced around my head some more and mutated into a new Website I'lll be launching sometime in the next 2-3 months depending on my schedule.
http://www.mp3maps.com/ MP3maps is going to be a Map 'mashup' (Yahoo! or Google) and the Music and Data of ArtistServer.com
Through this site, you'll be able to see where music is coming from in interesting ways...
- View the Distribution of Genres across the planet
- View the Distribution of an Artist's Fans
- Display a Playlist, Showing the Origins of Songs
- View a Map of Your Listening History (if you are a member of ArtistServer)
- and more...
MP3Maps is under development and will serve the same function as ArtistJukebox.com, which is what I call a "Satellite" or simply, "Rebranding Yourself" - which is where you rebrand your service/content as a means to stimulate more traffic and awareness by providing alternative means and interfaces to the same core service/content.
Here is an initial screen design for MP3maps.com - I'm sure it will evolve by the time it goes live. http://www.artistserver.com/files/mp3maps.png

Is Songbird the Ideal Media Player? If you are into online music, you may want to point your browser towards Songbird and see what it would be like if your media player functioned with your browsing. Sure, there's "Foxytunes" - an extension for your Firefox browser to control various media players, and there's ways to embed WMP into IE, but this is something different, and possibly the best way to experience music on the Web. http://www.songbirdnest.com/home
What's cool, is that it's built on Firefox! So for those of you already in love with Firefox... here's your new friend!
If you are not into beta software - you can still get excited about Songbird and learn how it works - just take a look at the screencast/demo they posted the other day:
http://download.songbirdnest.com/screencast/
Have I tired it... no, not yet, but it's on my list of things to check out.
If you try it out, post back here with your thoughts about the software.

Do you know a rock band, or a rap artist, or a jazz group? Do you know a rock band, or a rap artist, or a jazz group?
Please - help us out by telling them about http://www.ArtistServer.com
We REALLY need to get some good music in other genres than electronic. There's so much excellent electronic music to be found - but as soon as you venture out into the other root genres, you'll find they are still empty.
All new artist singups are placed in a Freeware account - this account gives an artist/band a lot to work with:
File/Image/Photo Storage: 25 MB Songs: 3 [ea. up to 20MB] Offer an MP3 Ringtone Per Song: yes Offer a LoFi MP3 Per Song: yes Music Stats: yes Blog: yes Artist Web Site: yes Additional Web Pages: yes Customizable Contact Form: yes Bit Rates: Basic (96, 128)
As you can see, the Freeware accounts have a lot of value.
ArtistServer provides a platform for all artists and bands to take their music where they want.
Do you want to just share your music? Are you looking to promote and become known? Are you promoting your new album? Do you have a tour you want to promote or support from the Web? Maybe you are looking to start a label? Or maybe you are looking to get signed?
These are all things that artists use ArtistServer.com for.
You can take it as far as you want - or you can chill out and give your tunes away and take it easy. We have all kinds of tools and means for artists to promote themselves and use the site to their advantage.
This year, with only a single google ad running plus word-of-mouth, we will have approximately 1 Million Unique Visitors to the site. Just image how much larger that number will be if we all make an effort to invite a few bands and artists to the site?
If they need to see numbers - they are on the site - under the "About" section.
So... do you know a rock band, or a rap artist, or a jazz group?
Help them and help us - turn them on to the site - show it to them - maybe even help them get started. Or maybe the next time you go out and see a band you really like - tell them to check out ArtistServer.
Thank you!
