Creative Commons License Integration An announcement for ArtistServer Artists and Members...Some of you may be familiar with the Creative Commons licensing scheme that was launched as an alternate to the very limiting "Copyright" scheme that has been in place for so long. More Info: http://creativecommons.org/ Here are the available License descriptions: http://creativecommons.org/license/meet-the-licenses ============== For ArtistServer, we'll start with songs, but eventually, all forms of content you upload to the site will allow you to assign a license to the content. I also hope to support the embeding of the selected license into files to - but that's a bit more work for me and the server for now. In addition to the 6 CC licenses, we'll also have 2 additional options for your content: 1. Copyright - the old standard - for those who wish to limit the distribution of your content, etc 2. Public Domain - for those who do not wish to retain any rights to their content. This will give you 8 options to select from - but don't worry - the selection will be very easy. ================= Creative Commons comes with a button - but since they are so big, we won't be using them on ArtistServer - here's an example: http://creativecommons.org/images/public/somerights20.png I'm not 100% sure yet, but I may create tiny icons to display next to the content - otherwise, we'll just have text w/ links to the actual license. ================= VERY IMPORTANT All songs on the site that are set for "Download" have already been set to use this license: Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs INFO: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.5/ All songs on the site that were NOT set for download were set to use this license: copyright - no distribution, sharing, etc ================= Once the License tools are setup in the MyAccount area, you'll be able to go in and edit the license settings for all your songs. Until then - you may want to look over what the options are and maybe discuss them with each other. ================= If you have any questions - just ask!
