Sonic Wallpaper - collective works release...
I started working my 'collective works' project again...
I don't have a realease date set yet, as not all of the content is complete - but I hope to be done by the end of summer 2005.
Each release will contain the following ========================
1 audio CD - a 'best of' Sonic Wallpaper collection - 14-15 songs
1 data DVD w/ * 120 Sonic Wallpaper Songs grouped into 13 albums, encoded most likely at 256kbps (most songs will get Re-EQ'd, etc. for the release) * playlists for all 13 albums * CD artwork - for all 13 albums so people can create the CDs if they want * a collection of photos, live, in the studio, w/ Lou, etc, various flyers, etc * 3-4 music videos - not sure on the format yet, maybe an interview in the studio for fun * Maybe remix packs for 3-5 songs * and if they fit, an additional 4hrs of live recordings most likely in 128kbps mp3 format
==================
I'm figuring I'd make it a limited edition release - maybe only 50.
Lou is going to help me with the packaging, etc - and most of the Photos will be hers (for those who don't know, Lou is my lovely wife).
I still have to encode all the songs at 256kbps and before that, I have to actually find all my masters. The other day I found a bunch on a drive - and I think the other half is divided across 2 other drives. One really good thing about this, is that I'm going to finally make a complete backup of all my masters to DVD
I also need to make 2 of the videos, the artwork for the CDs, and work out the interface and packaging. I'm not sure if the DVD will be readable in a MAC - I'll have to look into that. Usually you see on DVD's that the DVD-ROM portion is PC only - so that may have to be the case for my release.
The plan is to just self release it - I'm not sure there's any labels that would be interested, maybe over at Unschooled - but I don't think he'd be interested in such a small run, and a large run probably wouldn't sell well.
I'm also considering doing the DVD only and not having a CD to keep the cost down. The same tunes will also be on the DVD, but in mp3 format - so there's no loss in that respect. Plus, I think it's a bit of a novelty to release a DVD stuffed with music for the cost of a commercial CD... except in this case, you'd get something like 12-16hrs of music instead of 70min.
How much? not sure yet - but it won't be too much.
